DIY – Wicker Barstool

My favorite DIY projects are done on things I find on the curb. When I know I have not paid for something I find it easier to get creative. If the project is a bust and I can always put it back on the curb :)

Even the kids agreed this stool was visually challenged. I think they used the word “ugly”. While it still doesn’t make my heart stop or anything. I’m not afraid to bring it into the house either. In fact it kinda grows on you, the more you look at it…

The fabric is totally fabulous. Picked it up from Joann’s with a 50% off coupon from the paper. It is sort of Asian inspired color explosion. Who would have though orange goes with lime green, aqua, red and denim blue?

The seat was worn so I wrapped it in quilting batten, folded the fabric over the sides and used a upholstery stapler to staple it to the bottom of the seat.

I painted the wicker with the last of my can of Green Grapes (Ace Hardware). That quart took me far. I liked the look but it was not that comfortable yet so I made a pillow with the rest of the fabric and some green velvet (on the back of the pillow) made with the arm rest of the kids play room sofa.

I swear no fabric is safe around me. If I like your shirt I might try to take it home and make a pillow out of it! Beware.

I’m happy with the final result and now my daughter has a proper height stool for her piano lessons.

Namaste.

*I’m using the color combo from this fabric to do the kids play room. So far so fabulous and pictures are to come.
